History of Ugong
Many questions were asked as to where and when Barangay Ugong started. How did it get its name? The olds folks in the town say that Ugong got its name in a certain “paso” or river. The running water produces a different sound that can be heard even at far.
Barangay Ugong is situated in the east portion of Valenzuela. It is bounded by Gen. T. de Leon, in the west, Mapulang Lupa and Kaybiga in the north, in the east by San Bartolome , Bagbag and Talipapa and in the South by Sta. Queteria. Tullahan river lies along the side of Barangay Ugog. It flows from Lamesa Dam emptying into Malabon River.
In the olden days, this river was said to be the most beautiful because of its clear water and bountiful fishes. However the river was also a problem of the community especially during stormy days because it overflowed and caused death in some cases.
Almost 70 percent of Barangay Ugong’s total labor force was engaged in agriculture some into trading fruits, vegetables, milk and eggs in Manila, Caloocan and Malabon. Early inhabitants also engaged in charcoal making and bamboo crafts. After World War II, the head of the barangay was called “Kabesa”, few years later he was called “Tiniente” and at present they are called “ Kapitan”. Among those who served the community were: Kabesang Santos, Kabesang Andang, Kabesang Mundo, Tiniente Milo Cuadra, Tiniente Cadlos Candido, Tiniente Elojio Juan, TIniente Mero Lazaro, and Tiniente Panyo Lazao, Kapitan Bruno Pascual, Kapitan Florante Manero, Kapitan Pantaleon Cuadra, , Kapitan Antonio Lazaro, Kapaitan Juan, Kapitan Florencio Pineda and at present Kapitan Victor Lota.
Barangay Ugong has a land area of 6 square miles or 340 hectares. It is composed of six (6) sitios namely: Bonbon, La Mesa, Kabatuhan, Tatalon, Sulok, Que Grande or Centro. This was because it was in this sitio that the Santa Kruz chapel was located. The old folks celebrated its feast day every 3rd - 4th day of May, and many people coming from different places trek to the town. However, travel to Ugong was not that easy for one can reach the place only by sharing a ride over a truck that come and go, loaded with rocks that they got from the place.

As time went on Ugong became an industrialized barangay and began to improve their homes, means of communication and transportation. At present modern houses are built, private vehicles, public utility vehicles as well as tricycles are used to go places anywhere. These are indications of the great progress that Ugong has undergone.
